Chic Party: baby shower & building blocks craft

In addition to furniture and home design, I love hosting & planning parties and showers!

Lucky for me, I’m blessed with many babies in our life so there’s always someone special to celebrate.

Here’s a glimpse of a few baby showers I’ve hosted with some fabulous ladies recently.

My most recent shower was the Lavender and Lace baby shower.  I was thrilled to host with three other sweet & creative ladies.

We wanted a unique craft for the guests to participate in so I thought it would be perfect to build a set of blocks for baby Ellie Beth.

I came up with a color scheme, gathered supplies and got to work.

My supplies included:

- 1.5” x 1.5” wood blocks (purchased at Hobby Lobby)

- Mod Podge

- foam brushes

- sticker letters & numbers

- decorative stickers

- scrapbook paper cut into squares for backgrounds

- scrapbook paper cut into shapes using Cricut

- “handmade for you” stamp with ink

Simply make a set of instructions for your guests and provide the listed supplies for everyone to get creative!

STEP ONE: Grab a building block and select 6 pre-cute background squares. Use a foam brush to attach a square to each side of you block with Mod Podge.

STEP TWO: Decorate your block with 2 letters or numbers AND 3 stickers or  pre-cut shapes.

STEP THREE: Use the “handmade for you” stamp to fill the last square on your block and sign your name.

After all blocks were complete I added a coat of Mod Podge to each block to protect them.

The “craft station” was a big hit and we ended up with a wonderful keepsake for Ellie Beth and her Mommy to cherish for years to come.

  1. Fantastic Idea! One Question. Is The Mod Podge Safe For Babies Since They Almost Always Seen To Get Everything In Their Mouths?

  2. Great Idea! IgNore Last Post, But Question Remains....Is Mod Podge Safe?

  3. Mod Podge is non-toxic however isn't food safe. The set we made at our baby shower was displayed in the nursery as more of a keepsake. Once the baby is old enough to play/stack blocks without constantly putting them in their mouths I bet it would be a safe toy to play with.

  4. Hi, brilliant idea, where did you buy the stamp?

  5. I found plain wood craft blocks at https://www.etsy.com/listing/228143035/40-baby-blocks-wood-blocks-craft-blocks
Smooth and the edges were sanded so no worries!

  6. I'm planning a shower for my sister and want to do this craft station. I really love how it doesn't involve paint, only glue and stickers! I also like how I can pick the scrap papers that coordinate with the baby's nursery. And really really love the "Handmade by you" stamp. Can not wait. Thanks for sharing!!!

  7. Hello. What sort of white cups did you use for the paper cutouts? I was trying to figure out a way to corral the cutouts but still let people see them easily.

  8. Where did you get the stickers?
